In general, most of Indonesian dishes are spicy using many exotic spices such as galangal, turmeric, ginger, chillies, pepper, lemon grass and many more.

CocoNut Restaurant at Santai Hotel takes pride to bring some popular Indonesian food into your culinary journey whilst holidaying in Amed, Bali. They are Beef Rendang (originally from West Sumatra), Pepes Ikan (Steamed Fish in Banana Leaf), Bakmi Goreng (Fried Noodle), Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) and Sate Bali (Balinese Satay).

It’s interesting to know the cooking process of Rendang. Rendang is made from beef slowly cooked in coconut milk and spices for several hours until almost all the liquid is gone, allowing the meat to absorb the spicy condiments. It changes from boiling to frying as the liquid evaporates. The slow cooking process allows the meat to absorb all the spices and to become tender. The spices include ginger, galangal, turmeric leaf, lemon grass and chillies. Rendang is served with rice.

Other Indonesian dishes that worth a try are Nasi Goreng and Bakmi Goreng. These two dishes are influenced by Chinese cuisine elements that have been completely assimilated.

Indonesian meals are commonly eaten with the combination of a spoon in the right hand and fork in the left hand, although in many parts of the country (such as West Java and West Sumatra) it is also common to eat with one’s hands.

Being divinely located on the beach in Amed soil is a blessing for Santai Hotel Bali due to its pure natural beauty and its really interesting topography (to name a few: the road hugs the sea, swooping from headland to white sandy beaches back to headland).

On the way to Amed, you will pass the western slopes of Mount Seraya massif, the Tirtagannga water palace before crossing the pass at Abang. Beautiful rice terrace view will also catch your eyes. Amed is the first series of fishing villages that run southeast backdown the coast towards Candi Dasa.

In short, apart from topography, Amed offers the safe and good swimming, excellent snorkeling and diving, friendly people, clean air and no traffic.

Santai Hotel has a special privilege being located in one of Bali’s best kept secrets location: Karangasem Regency – East Bali, where large part of the area are still “the way Bali used to be”.

It contains some real treasures such as Tenganan, a village inhabited by Bali Aga, the original people of Bali, whose culture and traditions are pure and unique.

Furthermore, there are of course fresh and clean air, stunning rice fields and snake-fruit plantations, two fabulous water palaces, an astoundingly attractive temple on the side of island’s biggest volcano and best of all unspoiled friendly people. What teh regency doesn’t have , is the noice and crowds of the tourist centres of the south.

You can get in touch more closely to all of these natural gifts by joining one of our guided trekking tours to local villages and rice fields. A visit to local Balinese house can be included as well so you will have an opportunity to interact directly with local people and experience their way of life.
